Surf Jam 13!

Coming your way on Saturday November 21 at 11am

What is Surf Jam you ask?  Surf Jam is a surf competition on non mod surf boards, hanging out with great friends, listening to sweet tunes, and loads of fun!  Only the first 24 riders who send notecards to VW Sands will get to ride.  Those wishing to compete must be Vibrations members but all are welcome to come and watch and cheer on your favorite riders.  Wave choice is Pipes with crossing fluffies and surfer’s choice on non mod boards (SSi, HP, or Action).

Interested in working the Surf Jam?  IM VW Sands or Lissa Pinion inworld! Great way to get front row seats of the action and learn new skills.

A Very Special Thank You from VW

vsa_loggaAs you all know,  a month ago I put out a call, a request, to buy the sims for VW as a way of appreciation for all he does for us.  Well, Vibes, you stepped up and in less than one month we had raised the funds needed to purchse the sims!  When V returned from his annual fishing trip I was bursting at the seams to tell him what his wonderful group had done!  Needless to say, he didn’t believe me at first.  I believe the phrase he used was “Liss, you yanking my chain?”  This was followed by speechlessness which, if you know V, is rare.

On Aug 1 we had a celebration party Vibes style.  DJ Ensane hooked us up with tunes and the best people in the best group came to dance, congratulate V, and hang out with one another.  The following is copied from the speech V gave at the party.

Aloha!
First of all let me say very simply, Thank you! When Liss told me what all of you had done I was convinced that she was pullin my chain. I was, am still completely overwhemled.
After all the stress and latenights after the last comp, the thought of losing Mori weighed heavy on me and the relief and sheer joy that replaced it when I returned from vacation have yet to fade.
I had always known, all along that the Vibrations group was comprised of SL´s very best people but I never imagined that you would all come together (at the crack of Lissa´s whip, hehe) and raise the funds needed to allow us to keep our home. For that I am forever grateful.
I will in the following days be speaking to you all one on one in IM but for now please accept my gratitude and deepest thanks for your most generous gift. I´m simply overwhelmed.
In the meantime please enjoy YOUR sims. Now, LET`S PARTY!!!!!!!!!

Update on Surf for a Cure

RELAY FOR LIFE 5_23_20090

Just a few of us that rode that day!

I have amazing news from Socks concerning the Surf for a Cure for Relay for Life that took place May 23 from Noon to after Midnight sl time!

“the “Surf For Life” event raised L$39,844 for the American Cancer Society in DONATIONS on the route.  To put this in perspective, it translates to $153.25 US funds in 12 hours of surfing in pure donations.  In addition, the sims and riders donated to ride and host the torch, bringing the total raised to a little over L$50,000, over $190 US funds.

If I haven’t said it enough lately?  You people ROCK!!!!  I couldn’t have done this without you all!  Thank you!!!! :)

The event was held at some of the greatest surf spots around!  Tsunami, Rocky Point Beach, Tortola, Boracay, and finally ended at Mori with great tunes by Dakila Lacava and Laz Dresler who graciously donated all their tips while at the event to the Surf for a Cure event!  Thank you so very much to you both for keeping us going with great music!

We rode surfboards, jetskis, kiteboards, windsurfers, boats, floaties, helicopters dropped GI Joes on us, rafts, canoes, kayaks, etc.  If it we thought it would float we rode it!  Great fun but it’s not over yet!  Keep your eyes open for a couple more great fundraising events for Relay for Life!  Donation kiosks will remain on the sims so give when you can for a great cause!

RLF Riders for a Cure!

vsa_loggaIt’s Spring time and besides my annual spring cleaning (aka stuff it all in the closet and quickly close the door…wait! don’t open that door!) it’s time to take part in the annual Relay for Life.  For those who don’t know what Relay for Life is, it’s a massive fund raising effort here in the States to fight cancer thru the American Cancer Society.   At a typical RFL event, you will see cancer survivors, families, and friends of those lost to cancer.  We walk, bike, swim, run, and in our case in SL, surf.  (btw, our yardsale, of which all funds raised were donated to the Riders for a Cure team, raised just over $3000L!!!  Thank you so very much to each of you who came, bought, and took your stuff home)

On May 23, from Noon to Midnight sl time, we will be surfing for a cure!  Vibers have taken spots all thru the event schedule and Mori and Tuli are slated for the last 3 hrs of the event.  Come out and surf  with us.  Please contact Socks Clawtooth inworld if you would like to donate and surf as I’m sure he can fit you in earlier if you are not able to make it to the last bit.  If you would like to come out and team up with the best surf group in all of secondlife, contact me (Lissa Pinion also inworld) and I can get you more details about our end of it.

We also have a rockin’  gorgeous dj,  Laz, who has graciously offered her services to give us tunes while we surf and is donating any tips to RFL as well!  TY Laz!  Can’t make it to the event but wanna help?  We have a RFL donation kiosk on each of the sims…Mori’s can be found next to the deck in the center of the beach and the Tuli kiosk can be found in front of our home’s fence….beware tho, we have 2 chocolate labs, that while large dogs, will never be good guard dogs due to being stoned most of the time.

Ok, so just the details:

12 hours of surfing, non stop.  for a donation, surfers will carry a “Torch” while they surf.  they may surf, windsurf, jetski, kitesail, innertube or otherwise ride the waves.  It’s not about laps or times, but donations to find a cure for cancer.

Tunes: Gotta have tunes!  Provided by Laz the gorgeous DJ

Can’t be there?: Donate at one of the kiosks and help us beat cancer!

SJ 10 results

podiumbycol Another GREAT Surf-Jam and in fact the BEST final ever!

Only 1 point separated the riders in the final heat and after all was said and done we had a tie for the top spot!

Colleen was forced to give up her “Throne” and settled into P2 while O was right behind her in P3. No stopping Socks and Desi though as they ripped the field and shared the P1 spot.

Surf-Jam was open to 24 riders for the first time and even with the extra riders in the line-up we managed to get it in the books in just under 4 hours.

Hats off to the great judges and Marshal(s) for another great Surf-Jam! Be sure to check out SurfWatch!

Until next month, paddle hard
